SeptiCure® Non-Stick Burn Dressing
INTRODUCING NEW TECHNOLOGY IN PRIMARY BURN TREATMENT
Revolutionising burn treatment by promoting natural healing.
A case study on usage of DonorAid on superficial burn wounds of the face.
On 28 December 2004 a 2 year old boy who sustained superficial burn wounds to his face and trunk was admitted to Swartland Hospital in Malmesbury.
He was burnt by boiling water after his mother left a pot of boiling water unattended.
On admission he had severe swelling of his face and severe discomfort as was to be expected.
All of the burn wounds were superficial.
Opsite®, a transparent film dressing, was applied on his trunk and DonorAid was applied on the face of the child.
Dressing changes of his face were made on day 1, day 3 and day 7.
At dressing changes the DonorAid was removed and a new DonorAid dressing applied without pouring saline on the child or applying gauze to the wounds.
Photos of his wounds were taken on days 1, 3 and 7 after his admission.
On day 7 he was discharged and his mother continued with the dressings at home.
There is still a amount fair of swelling of the face and he is very distressed, especially for the loss of vision due to his swollen eyelids and due to exposure of his wounds.
Most of the swelling has subsided, the patient is comfortable and did not require analgesia anymore.
The extent of the burn wounds are more evident now.
All of the swelling has subsided and the patient seems much more happy.
Islands of regenerated skin is visible and there are no signs of infection.
The patient is discharged from hospital.
During his admission analgesia was administered only in the first 24 hours and no antibiotics were given during his hospitalisation.
Removal of the Donor aid® was easy since it did not stick to the wounds.
Donor aid® is covered by a perforated Teflon layer to prevent adhesion to the wound and this proved to be a great advantage for the patient.
The patient was distressed only on day 1 during dressing changes.
In general the nursing staff and the mother were very pleased with the result of the treatment.
The mom never returned for follow up due to lack of transport form the farm they were staying.
If a burn needs treatment, it needs SeptiCure®
