A Case Study of Leper Wounds
NASAD has been privileged to be involved with Chemspunge® Wound Dressing for the past 12 months, during which time your product Chemspunge® Wound Dressing has been used daily on Leper Invalids in the Liteta Leprosorium in Zambia.
The results are outstanding and in many cases healing of wounds, due to the loss of sensation to the extremities, has occurred within weeks. We continue to use only Chemspunge® Wound Dressing in the treatment of wounds in the Compound at Liteta.
Two long term patients were chosen for evaluation and over the past twelve months regular reports with photographs have been taken. In the case of Leper patient B the wound shown below, the 'elephant' foot has troubled him since 1982. Leper Invalid E with a similar wound has suffered for the passed ten years. In each of these patients, the wounds never improved until the use of Chemspunge® Wound Dressing. The patient B was about to undergo further amputation but NASAD was given the opportunity to try Chemspunge® Wound Dressing. In each of these individuals healing has continued unabated.
The most exciting discovery in these evaluations has been the 'complaint' by the individuals of a pulling sensation from deep inside the wound, accompanied by pain. As all feeling is supposedly lost in leper wounds this statement is remarkable.
With the decreased size of the wound the pulling sensation has remained. The wound is approximately 2 mm in diameter and 2 mm deep after 4 months treatment, the last picture illustrates the full effect obtained over 6 months. The patient was again walking to and from the clinic.
The photographs shown are of a lepers foot showing progressive healing.
